Construction of “GEVO“ locomotive diesel engine plant kicks off

ASTANA. July 4. KAZINFORM - Today, Serik Akhmetov, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, is taking part in the opening ceremony of memorial plate for “GEVO“ locomotive diesel engine plant construction.

It is expected that the plant will be commissioned in December 2014, as defined in the agreement signed by “Remlokomotiv“ JSC - “National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) JSC sub-company with an American company called “General Electric Transportation and Russian “Transmashdiesel”.

According to the press service of KTZ, the facilities will produce 300 units of 8 -, 12 - and 16-cylinder engines per year with capacity from 2200 to 4500 kW and nominal speeds between 950 and 1050 rotations per hour (rpm).

Engines are to be used for production of Kazakhstani diesel locomotives named “Evolution, for modernization of Russian articulated diesel locomotives as well as in shipbuilding. The company intends to export its products to the markets of former Soviet countries and Mongolia.

Head of Government has mentioned today that KTZ adequately is contributing to the development of transport engineering industry. There have already been built factories for production of electric locomotives, locomotives and high-speed Talgo passenger trains.

Speaking about foreign partners, Serik Akhmetov noted that Kazakhstan would continue to pursue a consistent policy of improving business environment and investment climate.

"We are ready to expand cooperation with foreign investors", concluded Prime Minister of Kazakhstan.
