Construction of new houses in the flood-affected Kokpekty underway

"30 sites are prepared today for construction of new private dwelling houses. We plan to complete the building of 50 houses by September", said the regional Akim Baurjan Abdishev. According to his words, the construction of houses is financed from the reserve of Karaganda region Akimat which allocated KZT 300 million", said the head of the region. B. Abdishev reported that the affected residents of Kokpekty have been allocated KZT 182 million for repairing homes and KZT 82 million for purchasing household appliances and furniture. Financial assistance has been provided from the funds of the public fund. The dam of the Kokpekty water reservoir failed on March 31 early in the morning flooding about 350 of the 810 houses in the village of Kokpekty and killing five villagers. Families of the victims paid financial assistance in the amount of KZT 1 million. In connection with the emergency criminal proceedings were initiated against officials, the dam owner and the tenant of the reservoir.
