Consumer basket needs to be changed: Labor Minister of Kazakhstan

ASTANA. November 6. KAZINFORM The consumer basket needs to be reviewed in Kazakhstan, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Tamara Duissenova said at the Majilis meeting on Wednesday.

"As for the structure of the food basket, it is worth mentioning, that in the world practice it is altered every five years. The structure is determined based on the products consumed in every country, its climate and morbidity rate of the population," Ms Duissenova noted.

The Minister also stressed the last time the food basket in Kazakhstan was reviewed was back in 2005, when the number of products went up from 20 to 43 items. In her opinion, it is high time to review its structure and that will be done after the proposals of the Kazakh Nutrition Academy and the Health Care Ministry are examined.

The round table chaired by Majiliswoman Dariga Nazarbayeva discussed the provision of minimum social standards to the citizens of Kazakhstan in the context of the tasks outlined by the Head of State in his state-of-the-nation address "Kazakhstan-2050" Development Strategy: new political course of the established state.
