Cooperation-2009 strategic command-staff exercise

ASTANA.  October 14. KAZINFORM On 16 October 2009, on the south of Kazakhstan, in Zhambyl Oblast, the final phase of the "Cooperation-2009", strategic command-staff exercise is being scheduled and will involve the Collective Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). The heads of member-states and the defence ministers of the CSTO are invited. Altogether 7,000 servicemen take part in this exercise. 

The exercise started on 02 October 2009. The first joint phase took place on 07 October 2009, during which the military forces of Kazakhstan, Russia, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan have been assigned and successfully accomplished various tactical missions of repelling aggression, situation stabilisation, suppressing and destroying the detachments of illegal military formations.

The CSTO exercises are intended to acknowledge the large potential and capabilities of the Organisation as a military-political union, to solve various problems in the real world and to act in peacekeeping and stability in the region, the press service of the Kazakhstan Embassy in the UK informs.
