Coordination Board approves child-friendly city indicators in Kazakhstan

ASTANA. KAZINFORM The Child Rights Protection Committee under the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan and UNICEF held a meeting of the Coordination Board on the assessment and recognition in Kazakhstan cities as child-friendly cities (CFC).

An international CFC initiative is a basis for monitoring the realization of child rights in different spheres of life at the local level, within the frames of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, Millennium Development Goals, National Strategy "Kazakhstan-2050" and other programmes aimed to improve the wellbeing of children in cities, towns and districts in the country. The peculiarity of this initiative in contrast to other social programmes is the child and youth participation in decision making process that affect their interests. The objective of the meeting was to approve national indicators on assessment and recognition of cities with regards to friendliness to children. The participants from UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Kazakhstan, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, Ministry of Regional Development, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Emergency Situations, Ministry of Internal Affairs, agency on sports and physical culture, agency on statistics, youth representative, and also NGOs. As a result of the Board meeting national indicators and the CFC assessment and recognition mechanism in Kazakhstan were approved by the members of the Board.
