Countering crisis in banking sector discussed in Vienna

VIENNA-BRUSSELS. April 23. KAZINFORM /Yerzhan Ospanov/ III Vienna Banking forum for CIS countries and Eastern Europe and the XX Conference of the Banking Association for Central and Eastern Europe (BACEE) kicked off in the capital city of Austria today.

Top managers of the leading banks of the CIS, Central and Eastern Europe gathered for the event. Amid the global financial crisis the forum brought together the bankers, political scientists, diplomats, journalists and representatives of community. Kazakhstan Ambassador to Austria Yerzhan Kazykhanov made a report at the ceremony. He familiarized the attendees with the country?s anti-crisis measures outlined in the President?s Address to the Nation as of March 6, 2009 and the state support of the banking sector. The Ambassador stressed participation of Kazakhstan in international events on overcoming the global financial crisis. He informed of our country?s contribution to the establishment of the EurAsEC Anti-Crisis Fund and the results of the II Astana Economic Forum following which its participants worked out recommendations to the leaders of the G20 countries. The attendees were also acquainted with N. Nazarbayev?s initiative on introduction of a single world currency. The Vienna Banking Forum and the XX Conference of the Banking Association of the Central and Eastern Europe will last till April 25. A Joint Declaration is expected to be adopted following it.
