Criminal rate 11% down in Kazakhstan

There has been reduction in the crime rate in Kazakhstan, the statement from the country’s Prosecutor-General’s Office reads, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports. 

According to the statement, Kazakhstan saw a 11% reduction in the number of crimes (from 157,473 to 140,272), including a 14.9% decline in serious crimes (from 44,106 to 37,548), 12.6% reduction in crimes of moderate severity (from 67,340 to 58,874), and a 4% reduction in minor crimes (from 22,741 to 21,826).

There was a 15.7% rise in the number of cases for the grave crimes (from 2,241 to 2,593). Prosecutors terminated unjustified criminal prosecutions against 254 persons as part of the supervision of investigations, reads the statement.

According to the Prosecutor-General’s Office, the number of violations of constitutional rights of citizens in criminal proceedings was 22.7% down from 578 to 447. 97 people were acquitted by the court.
