The first official results showed that Josipovic took 32.44 percent of the vote, and Bandic 14.84 percent. Since neither of them garnered the 50-percent support required for an outright victory, they will face each other in the runoff.

The runoff vote will be held on Jan. 10, 2010.

The incumbent President Stjepe Mesic will step down in February after serving the maximum two five-year terms, Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.chinaview.cn for full version.
