Crucial to focus effort on northern border of Afghanistan - Deputy Prime Minister of United Kingdom
"It is necessary to try to settle conflicts on the basis of goodwill. Our goal is restoration of formal negotiations on Moldova and Transnistria as soon as the Moldovan government will be formed. New energy which should give impetus to the "5 plus 2" process is needed".
"We welcome a statement singed by Armenia and Azerbaijan as well as the Chairman of the Minsk Group on Nagorno-Karabakh. Progress in these conflicts settlement will be a historic achievement. We call all sides not to miss the point for ensuring stable peace", N.Clegg said.
"I want to welcome the chairmanship focusing on the OSCE activity in Afghanistan, we should continue work on democracy supporting there. The United Kingdom is grateful for many countries' contribution to Afghanistan. It is important to maintain rail and air corridors, it is necessary to preserve and expand them. It is crucial to focus effort on the northern border of Afghanistan, struggle against trafficking in drugs, weapons and human beings. It is a critical border, milestone in the fight for security of our nations", the UK Vice Premier said.
"The United Kingdom calls the OSCE to continue ensuring this border, its security. I want to assure you that we will provide off-budget funds for the OSCE frontier college in Dushanbe for training of the Afghan border guards for more responsibility", N.Clegg noted.
