CSTO Collective Security Council to look into global, regional security challenges
MOSCOW. May 14. KAZINFORM Global and regional security challenges for the CSTO member states as well as countermeasures will be discussed in a meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in Moscow on 15 May, BelTA learnt from CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov.
The heads of state will take stock of the CSTO activity from 2002 to 2012 and consider priority areas for further development. CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha is expected to deliver a speech, BelTA reports.
The collective security treaty was signed in Tashkent on 15 May 1992. The decision to transform the existing cooperation mechanisms and structures of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty into an international regional organization - Collective Security Treaty organization was taken at the meeting of the Collective Security Council in Moscow on 14 May 2002. The CSTO comprises Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
