CSTO consistently demonstrated its relevance as a guarantor of security - President Tokayev

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev declared the regular session of the CSTO Collective Security Council open, Kazinform agency correspondent reports.

The Head of State noted that in the context of modern challenges, the CSTO has consistently demonstrated its relevance as a guarantor of security for all participating countries.

"Our coordinated actions, mutual trust and support strengthen collective ability to address the most complicated and large-scale tasks. It is important to emphasize that the CSTO is not just a military partnership. This is a unique mechanism that unites our efforts and resources to protect sovereignty and territorial integrity of our states. As the CSTO presiding country, Kazakhstan has focused its efforts on enhancing close cooperation among the participating countries, upgrading efficiency of the mechanisms of rapid response to crisis situations, as well as developing the our Organization's potential in the fight against modern threats, including terrorism, cyberattacks, transnational crime and drug trafficking," said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The President reminded that the meetings of the statutory bodies, military exercises and preventive operations of the CSTO were held in a planned manner. The topical collective security issues were discussed in detail by the ministers of foreign affairs and defense.

Meetings at the level of the secretaries of security councils and parliament speakers were held. The meetings of the auxiliary and working structures of the Organization took place. A series of consultations on various areas of the CSTO's activity were organized.

"Several important documents were adopted during the intersessional period. The documents cover the issues of international cooperation, interaction in the defense sphere, as well as countering current challenges and threats to collective security. Special attention was given to the preparations for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. A corresponding statement of the Collective Security Council will be presented today. In general, all the tasks set to the CSTO during Kazakhstan's chairmanship have been fulfilled. Let me express my deep gratitude for the support in implementing our priorities and fruitful joint work," said the Head of State.

He noted that the heads of state will have to exchange views on the international and regional situation at the session, and assess its impact on the security of the CSTO member states.

"We will also hear information on the work performed on a wide range of areas of cooperation within the CSTO and summarize the results of activity over the past period. Let me declare the regular session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization open," said  Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The session of the CSTO Collective Security Council continued in a narrow format.
