CSTO military drills to be held in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan in 2024

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is set to hold military drills in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan in 2024, Colonel-General Anatoly Sidorov, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, said at a briefing in Moscow, Kazinform News Agency learned from KABAR .

“The plan for 2024 places emphasis on the Central Asian region of collective security,” he said.

Sidorov clarified that it is planned to conduct exercises with collective rapid reaction forces in Kyrgyzstan, with peacekeeping contingents in Kazakhstan, and with rapid deployment forces in the Central Asian region in Tajikistan.

The chief of staff also said that it is too early to talk about the timing and location of the exercises. These issues will be discussed in December 2023, he added.

Sidorov also said that the CSTO is working to curb the terrorist threat from Afghanistan. He emphasized that we are not talking about a military danger, but about problems caused by the fact that the Afghan leadership does not control a number of border areas
