CSTO serves as a relevant international structure, states President Tokayev

Over the years, the CSTO member states have garnered a rich experience of interaction on a broad range of issues, Kazakh leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at the expanded-format meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council in Astana, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

The CSTO serves as an efficient and relevant international structure, aimed at ensuring collective security. Over the years, the CSTO member states have garnered a rich experience of interaction on a broad range of issues. An extensive regulatory framework has been established. The necessary mechanisms to tackle the modern challenges and threats are in place. Collective security forces and means have been established and are now operational, said the Kazakh President.

According to the Kazakh leader, constructive cooperation with a number of authoritative international and regional organizations has been established.

The decision was made to enhance cooperation with the CIS and SCO within the CSTO in 2022. In the spirit of good tradition, today’s meeting is joined by the heads of these international organizations. I’d like to welcome our guests General Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States Sergey Lebedev and Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Zhang Ming, said Tokayev.

The Kazakh President pointed out that the heads of state, participants of the narrow-format meeting held an in-depth exchange of views on the current issues of international and regional security.

The main outcomes of the CSTO’s activities in the current year under the presidency of Kazakhstan were discussed. The meeting’s results once again confirmed our firm readiness to act together to prevent challenges and threats to collective security. During the discussions, we exchanged our positions on the ongoing issues of international agenda. Our common assessments of the current situation and the vision for the further development of the CSTO are reflected in the Declaration of the Collective Security Council, developed at the initiative of Kazakhstan, said President Tokayev.

According to him, special attention was placed to the celebration of the most important occasion – the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The heroism of veterans, labor feats of home front workers will remain forever in our memories. They are an inexhaustible source of boundless pride and respect for us all. We believe it’s important to adopt the Statement of the CSTO Collective Security Council as well as to approve the action plan to celebrate the anniversary ahead of this landmark date. I’m convinced that the suggestions and initiatives put forward today will be realized in the interests of the member countries of the organization, added the President.
