ASTANA.  October 23. KAZINFORM  /Serik Sabekov/ Today at a special press conference Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary  Ambassador of Cuba to Kazakhstan Abelardo Fabio Hernandez Ferrer called Kazakhstan to support a resolution on lifting the US economic, trade and financial embargo against Cuba.

"The abovementioned embargo was imposed on Cuba in 1962. Today it is no more modern political decision. For 18 times our government has submitted draft resolution on necessity of calling off the financial, economic and trade blockade against Cuba. The first draft resolution was presented at the UN General Assembly in 1992. 185 countries voted for our resolution last year, while only three countries including the USA were against the document", Abelardo Fabio Hernandez Ferrer said.

According to the diplomat, the US trade embargo cost Cuba approximately USD 96 bln. The world community and Cuba hoped the new administration and US President Barack Obama would make efforts for lifting the blockade but nothing changes.

"This is the only country in the world which has imposed such embargos. Although President Barack Obama promised remove certain restrictions we have not seen any certain steps in this direction yet. Voting for the resolution is scheduled for Oct 28, 2009 at the UN General Assembly", the Ambassador resumed.
