Cultural heritage: archeological values ignored in Mangystau region
According to the archaeologists land of Mangystau is rich, in the first place, for the monuments of sacral architecture (funeral monuments, mosques, including the unique underground nominated for inclusion into the list of UNESCO).
In the area there are many objects valuable from archaeological point of view, but the works are not carried out with them. For a long time the project has not been funded concerning the excavation settlement named Koskuduk-1 and Koskuduk-2 of Copper Age (second half of the 5th millennium BC). More than two years ago due to lack of funding there stopped digging of the medieval fort, X-XIII cc. Kyzylkala.
"The work on the site of Kyzylkala started in 2004 and continued sporadically for four field seasons. During the archeological excavation the area of 600 square meters was laid down near the city walls of the fortress. On the area of the excavation fully investigated are three construction periods and partly opened are the remains of the buildings of the fourth one. Time of the fortress walling is still being conventionally defined, but not confirmed materially.
There is necessity of completing the project of historical and cultural studies of this settlement. But the concern is not only the lack of money for the needs of archeology, but also the fact that the area of civil engineering for the field is expanding, and there are no necessary security measures, and the excavation is notdone, although there is a scientific paper on the presence of archaeological sites. They are all subject to human impact, moreover, sometimes they are deliberately destroyed, " said in a famous archaeologist Andrey Astafyev.
