Customs Union to develop uniform food safety requirements

MINSK. March 12. KAZINFORM The Customs Union member states, namely Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan, show interest in developing uniform food safety requirements, consultant of the department for technical rate setting and standardization of the State Committee for Standardization of Belarus Svetlana Kuruch said at a roundtable in Minsk on 11 March; Kazinform refers to BelTA.

"The issue pertains first of all to the common food safety and quality requirements. Technical regulations are currently harmonized. Unified technical regulations for Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan are to be soon developed within the Customs Union," Svetlana Kuruch said. In her words, no technical regulations in the Customs Union have been adopted yet; everything is at the development stage.

In Q2 2011, 11 draft regulations will be presented to the Customs Union Commission. Public hearings will be opened regarding 28 draft regulations. All in all, the list includes 47 overriding technical regulations of the Customs Union regarding the most important commodities.
