Damascus 'suicide bombing' kills nine people
DAMASCUS. April 27. KAZINFORM A suicide bomber has killed at least nine people in the centre of the Syrian capital Damascus, according to reports on state TV; Kazinform refers to BBC News.
The TV channel broadcast graphic images of the scene and said a further 20 people had been injured.
It blamed "terrorists" for the blast near a mosque in the Midan area.
This comes after UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon warned the Syrian government is "in contravention" of an internationally agreed peace plan.
Mr Ban has demanded Damascus comply with the peace plan brokered by envoy Kofi Annan without delay.
Earlier on Friday a separate explosion was reported in another, industrial, part of Damascus but it was unclear if there were casualties from that blast.
An estimated 9,000 people have died in Syria since the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad started in March last year, according to UN figures.
