Death toll in Kostenko mine explosion rises to 33
The death toll in the Kostenko mine explosion in Karaganda region rose to 44, Kazinform News Agency reports.
According to reports, 33 lifeless bodies of deceased miners were discovered at the site of the incident. 13 people are still missing. 6 people were rescued.
The work at the site of the fatal incident is ongoing. The fire seat has been localized.
The news about the fatal explosion and fire at the ArcelorMittal Temirtau mine in Karaganda region shocked Kazakhstan this morning.
The incident came two months after five people were killed in an explosion at the ArcelorMittal Temirtau mine in August.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev extended his condolences to the victims’ families and declared a national day of mourning on October 29. The President also ordered the Government to halt investment cooperation with ArcelorMittal Temirtau and nationalize the company.
