ASTANA. December 21. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ "Zhanaozen events occurred on December 16 were instigated by those people who have politicized for their criminal goals the social issue," chairman of the Kazakh Senate Kairat Mami told today's plenary session.

As you know, December 17 the Kazakh Security Council convened to debate the situation in Zhanaozen. Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev addressed the people of Kazakhstan and offered condolences to the bereft families," the Speaker noted.

The President decreed imposing a state of emergency in Zhanaozen to restore law and order and public peace.

We will not allow disturbing law and public peace. The instigators will be brought to justice to the full effect of the law and carry punishment, Mami said.

We call the people of Zhanaozen to maintain peace and order.

Senators M. Bortnik and B. Chelpekov visited Aktau to meet the people on December 18. If it is necessary we are ready to meet with the locals. We urge the people to stay calm and respect the law," said the Speaker.
