Decrease in water resources by 15% expected in Kazakhstan by 2030

ANA. November 5. KAZINFORM /Dimash Syzdykov/ "Decrease in water resources from 100 to 85 bln cubic meters i.e. 15% is expected in Kazakhstan by 2030", Deputy Chairman of the Committee on water resources of the Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture Amirkhan Kenshimov has said Thursday at workshop "Climate change's impact on decrease of water resources and development of adaptive measures in the Kazakh agriculture by 2030".

According to him, one of the main reasons of the decrease in water resources is geographical location of Kazakhstan in the lower courses of big cross-border rivers. Neighboring states increase the water consumption annually, decreasing the level of water in our rivers.

The second reason is irrational use of water resources inside the country. The third is consequences of the global warming, leading to the reduction of precipitations, evaporation increase, and intense deglaciation and rivers flow lowering.

In this regard the Government should improve efficiency of water resources usage, especially in the agriculture.
