Deputy Defense Minister of Kazakhstan expected in Washington, DC

WASHINGTON, DC. November 23. KAZINFORM On November 26, a delegation of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan headed by the Deputy Minister of Defense, Major-General Talgat Zhanzhumenov is planning to arrive in Washington, DC.

During the visit the delegation will participate in the Bilateral Defense Consultations between the Defense Ministries of the two countries, which will sum up the cooperation in the framework of 2008-2012 five-year military cooperation plan, the special issue of the Kazakh Embassy in the US reads.

The Armed Forces of Kazakhstan and the U.S. have developed a strong relationship as important component of the strategic partnership between the two countries. During this period, the U.S. provided technical support to the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan to the amount of approximately $ 90 million. Leading military-educational institutions and specialized training centers of the U.S. Armed Forces, including the West Point Military Academy, Annapolis Naval Academy, National Defense University, trained more than 350 of Kazakhstani military. Active cooperation is developing in the field of training and equipping peacekeeping brigade "KAZBRIG", soldiers of which honorably fulfilled their international duties within the Multinational Forces in Iraq.

During the upcoming bilateral defense consultations the parties will discuss the next steps to develop and strengthen military cooperation in key areas such as peacekeeping, joint training, exchange of experience in the reform of the armed forces, etc. A five-year military cooperation plan for the next term from 2012 to 2017 is expected to be signed.
