Development of partnership with EU countries - Kazakhstan's foreign policy priority

ASTANA. November 10. KAZINFORM /Aituar Mamlin/ The 9th meeting of the Kazakhstan-European Union Public justice and law order subcommittee has been held today in Astana.

First Deputy Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan Johann Merkel and Head of Unit for Central Asia in the European Commission's Directorate General for External Relations Victor Andres Maldonado co-chaired the meeting.

Issues of improving judicial system of Kazakhstan and realization of the reforms in this sphere, joining the international agreements by Kazakhstan such as the Council of Europe were discussed.

'The results achieved on improving the system allowed us to introduce a new court structure and a new procedural law since January 1, 2010', judge of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan Zholymbet Baishev said.

During the meeting relevant issues on migration and border control were duscussed. Besides, the participants focused on the measures taken by Kazakhstan and the European Union to counter terrorism, drug trafficking, corruption, etc.

In whole, the sides expressed satisfaction with the results of the meeting and the information exchange that was active and productive and hoped for further successful cooperation during next meetings.
