Director general of UNESCO to take part in Congress of Religious Leaders in Astana
As the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan informs, the interlocutors noted the relevance of discussed by the sides issues. Awareness of the necessity of productive dialogue between religious and political leaders and their responsibility for the situation in the world explains regular participation of UNESCO representatives in the previous forums of leaders of world and traditional religions.
The Ambassador also attracted attention of I. Bokova to the efforts of the country and N. Nazarbayev aimed at strengthening of global and regional security, maintaining and strengthening of the international dialogue and further development of the country.
The Head of the UNESCO was also familiarized with the main provisions of the Address of the President "Nurly Zhol" and the results of the 20-year activity of the Assembly of People of Kazakhstan. Besides, the director general was also informed about the efforts of Astana on promotion of the candidature of Kazakhstan to the post of the non-permanent member of the UNSC in 2017-2018.
I. Bokova highly praised and noted relevance of the initiative of President N. Nazarbayev on convocation of the Congress ofLeaders of World and Traditional Religions. The situation in the Middle East and other regions demonstrate the necessity of activation of joint efforts of the countries, international organizations such as the UN and UNESCO in particular in order to address the relevant problems of the modern times.
