Diyas unseats Shvedova to become Kazakhstan's Number 1 in tennis

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Zarina Diyas, 20, has elbowed aside her compatriot Yaroslava Shvedova in the WTA rankings and has become Kazakhstan's number 1 in tennis, Kazinform has learnt from Vesti.kz.

The rising tennis star maintained her spot №53 in the rankings thanks to reaching round two of the WTA's Citi Open Tournament in Washington, U.S. Unlike Diyas, Shvedova slid two places down and is currently №54. Other tennis players from Kazakhstan Galina Voskoboyeva, Yulia Putintseva and Sesil Karatantcheva are ranked 119th, 164th and 173rd respectively. It is worth mentioning that Zarina Diyas demonstrated breakthrough performance at the 2014 Australia Open where she reached round three and at the 2014 Wimbledon where she advanced to quarterfinal.
