'Dostyk' Kazakh-Chinese joint hydrosystem opens on Khorgos river
During the trip Mr. Nysanbayev took part in the opening ceremony of the joint Kazakh-Chinese hydro system called "Dostyk" on Khorgos river, as Ministry of Environmental Protection press service informs.
Waterworks provide fair and equitable division of transboundary river waters and it will address many water supply issues relating to border regions of Kazakhstan and China.
It is foreseen to connect to «Dostyk» all the existing main (irrigation) canals which take water from Khorgos river via non-engineering intakes.
The hydroelectric dam site maximum flow will be 382 m3/sec which provides water irrigation to more than 16,000 hectares of land.
In addition, the waterworks will produce to 10.5 million kW / h of electricity for own needs and economic needs of nearby communities.
Project costs USD 9 million 560 thousand. The construction started in April 2011.
Agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the People's Republic of China towards an equal division of Khorgos river flow is an important achievement in the field of water supply of the country.
