DPRK announces to hold party conference

PYONGYANG. April 2. KAZINFORM The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will hold the Fourth Conference of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) on April 11, the official KCNA news agency reported Monday.

The DPRK's Korean People's Army (KPA), all the provinces, cities and counties have convened their party committee meetings to elect delegates to the WPK conference, the KCNA said.

Kim Jong-un, the supreme leader of the WPK, state and army, was elected as a delegate to the WPK conference, reflecting the "unanimous will and desire of all the party members, service personnel and people," it said.

The meetings also elected officials and workers who had contributed to strengthening the party and promoted the cause of the Juche and the Songun revolutions, as delegates to the party conference.

During the Third WPK Conference held on September 28, 2010, late leader Kim Jong-il was reelected as the party's general secretary and Kim Jong-un was appointed vice chairman of the party's Central Military Commission.

The WPK held its Sixth Congress in October 1980, but has not convened its Seventh Congress so far. The WPK Central Committee can decide to hold the party's conferences between its congresses.
