Druzhba pipeline spill in Poland under investigation, supply unaffected
A fuel leak occurred on a section of the Druzhba (Editor’s note: Friendship) oil pipeline near the town of Pniewy, located in western Poland. This was reported by Martin Halasz, press secretary of the State Fire Service of the Wielkopolska Voivodeship, Kazinform News Agency reports with reference to TASS.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning. The first signal was a strong smell of gas near a local gas station and hotel.
“During the investigation, it was established that a substance similar to oil had spilled in the field. The Druzhba pipeline may be located in this area. Contact was established with PERN (the Polish company that operates the Druzhba pipeline—TASS note), and the company preventively switched off one of the pumping substations,” Halasz said.
The company confirmed that the leak did not affect oil supplies to Germany. According to the company’s statement, “Pumping on the damaged line was immediately stopped; oil supplies continue through the second line, the technical capacity of which fully covers the volume needs of customers.”
Although PERN verified that the leak came from a pipeline the business maintained, the origin of the incident is yet unknown. Meanwhile, the State Fire Service will ensure repairs to the damaged section. The statement also noted that there is no threat to residents.
Later comments will come from the Energy Ministry of Kazakhstan, whose oil shipments partly flow via Druzhba. Kazakhstan transmits oil through Russia via the Caspian Pipeline Consortium to Novorossiysk, supplies to Germany via the northern line of Druzhba started in February 2023 with a capacity of 2 million barrels daily.
