E Kazakhstan Akim B. Saparbayev meets US Ambassador R. Hoagland

KAMENOGORSK.  August 20. KAZINFORM /Ludmila Malko/ Akim of the East Kazakhstan oblast Berdibek Saparbayev has met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to Kazakhstan Richard Hoagland in Ust Kamenogorsk today.

The parties exchanged views on the relations between the US and Kazakhstan, including interaction with the East Kazakhstan region. In particular, B. Saparbayev noted the region had huge potential for expanding mutually beneficial trade relations with the USA despite low index of commodity turnover between the USA and East Kazakhstan - USD 200 mln.

For instance, American side can invest in agricultural processing sphere of the region. B. Saparbayev also enumerated directions of mutually beneficial cooperation. Thus, the USA consumes products of the Ust-Kamenogorsk Titanium-and-Magnesium Plant and Ulba Metallurgical Works.   There is also possibility of expanding cooperation of the US with Ust  Kamenogorsk -based AsiaAvto Car Assembly Plant.

Besides economy, the sides cooperate in humanitarian sphere. A Kazakh-American Free University was opened in the region. An American Cultural Centre functions on the ground of the Pushkin regional library. AES American Energy Company uniting 6 energy producers of the region has been working here for 12 years. 4 200 people are engaged in work there. The sum of tax revenues from these ventures' activity makes around KZT 3.5 bln.

This is the second visit of R. Hoagland to East Kazakhstan. He invited the Kazakhstani side to take part in an International Innovation Conference scheduled for November in New York.

Upon completion of the meeting the parties came to a conclusion to discuss the urgent problems of cooperation in energy sphere behind the closed doors.
