Earthquake in Almaty: Landslide-prone areas and life support facilities inspected
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan has inspected landslide-prone areas and life support facilities in Talgar of the Almaty region following the earthquake that occurred today, October 5, at approximately 10:00 am, Kazinform News Agency reports.
The specialists from Almaty city maintenance and technical department Kazselezaschita conducted monitoring of riverbeds, hydraulic structures, and areas prone to landslides and mudflows.
Furthermore, the patrol police of the Almaty police department conducted a visual inspection of life support facilities to ascertain whether any damage had occurred.
“The inspection yielded no findings of damage, and the facilities are currently operating routinely. The Ministry of Emergency Situations has not received any reports of damage or casualties. The situation is stable,” the ministry said.
The emergency call line '112' received approximately 50 calls of an informative nature from the city's population.
It was earlier reported that the citizens of Almaty felt an earthquake at around 10:00 am. According to the national seismological center, the quake’s preliminary magnitude was 4.5. The epicenter of the quake was 33 kilometers east of Almaty, in the territory of Kazakhstan. The coordinates of the epicenter are 43.261 north latitude, and 77.310 east longitude.
