Egypt hosted the 12th OIC Summit

ASTANA. February 7. Kazinform The largest forum of the global Islamic Ummah is important for Kazakhstan, as it has confirmed recently its commitment to the goals and mission of the OIC by making an active contribution while chairing the 38th OIC Foreign Ministers Meeting.

Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister will deliver his speech at the Summit and will have a number of bilateral meetings with Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, the OIC Secretary General, and his colleagues from the OIC member-states.

26 heads of states and governments, including from Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saud Arabia, and Turkey, are attending the OIC Summit. They will discuss a wide range of topical issues for the Islamic World.

At working sessions of the Summit titled "New challenges and opportunities for the Islamic World", participants will discuss the development of multidimensional cooperation among the OIC member states, as well as conflicts in the Muslim countries and joint ways to resolve the complicated humanitarian aftershocks.

Participants' special attention will be focused on the situation in Mali and Syria, the developments in Afghanistan, Sudan, Yemen and other OIC countries, disturbances threaten regional security.

A separate topic will touch upon the islamophobia issue and ways to resolve it on a global scale. Participants will consider increase of involvement of the OIC in the intercultural and interreligious dialogue within the cooperation between the OIC and the UN's "Alliance of Civilizations" initiative.

The Summit participants will jointly consider opportunities for development of a multidimensional cooperation in various spheres, stipulated by the 10 years-long OIC Action Plan, which determines general development of the Organization until the year 2015.

The Forum will conclude by adopting a joint Communiqué that will reflect the event's main outcomes.
Previous 11th regular OIC Summit was held in 2008 in Senegal, Dakar.
