Ethiopia earns US$908 million from coffee exports in last six months

ECTA Deputy Director General Shafi Umer said the country exported more than 200,000 tonnes of coffee in last six months , which was made possible by a significant increase in production and productivity in the industry, TV BRICS reports.

According to ENA, Shafi Umer said Ethiopia's coffee industry has undergone extensive reforms in recent years to improve product quality, production and efficiency. 

Thanks to the efforts of the government and stakeholders, the country has not only met but also exceeded targets. The original target for the half year was $714 million from the export of 133,000 tonnes of coffee.

At the end of the last fiscal year, Ethiopia, the home of Arabica, earned over US$1.4 billion from coffee exports. In the current fiscal year, the country plans to increase its earnings to US$2 billion by exporting more than 400,000 tonnes of coffee.

As reported previously, India's coffee exports have almost doubled in the last four years to reach US$1.29 billion in fiscal 2023-24 from US$719.42 million in 2020-2021. This has made India the seventh largest coffee producer in the world, according to a Commerce and Industry Ministry statement.
