EU countries to push for UN oil and gas embargo on Libya
ASTANA. March 25. KAZINFORM A European Union summit is set to call for a United Nations embargo on Libya's oil and gas industry, documents showed early on Friday, dpa reported. Kazinform refers to Trend News.
The EU has already frozen the accounts and issued a travel ban on Libyan leader Moamer Gaddafi and his associates, and has frozen the assets of oil companies and sovereign wealth funds financing his regime.
"The European Union stands ready to initiate and adopt further sanctions, including measures to ensure that oil and gas revenues do not reach the Gaddafi regime," a draft EU summit statement read.
"Member states will take similar proposals to the United Nations Security Council," it added.
Diplomats said the document had been agreed and was expected to be approved later on Friday, when the summit is set to conclude. Kazinform cites Trend News. See www.en.trend.az
