EU grants EUR 7 mln to Kyrgyzstan for education sector
The European Union transferred EUR 7 million (665 million soms) to the government of Kyrgyzstan on a grant basis for the education sector, Kabar reports citing the press service of the Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The EUR 7 million tranche is the first of EUR 27 million allocated by the European Union to implement the education development strategy in Kyrgyzstan during 2023-2026.
This program provides assistance in taking measures to improve the quality of education and student assessment systems, promote gender equality and multilingual education, and improve public financial management. The Ministry of Finance plans to use the funds from this tranche to further improve the quality of education, purchase textbooks and provide access to the Internet in all schools.
“An education system accessible to all is a key priority for cooperation between the government of Kyrgyzstan and the European Union. This assistance reflects the EU’s commitment to supporting the country’s development,” said EU Ambassador Marilyn Josefson.
