EU strengthens control over food imported from Japan
BRUSSELS. March 26. KAZINFORM /Dimash Syzdykov/ The European Union strengthens control over the import of food from several Japanese regions due to radioactive contamination threat as a result of an accident at the nuclear plant 'Fukushima'. The EU takes these measures in order to prevent anyrisks for European consumers. The press service of the European Commission informs.
The member states of the European Union approved the import conditions proposed by the European Commission during the sitting of the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health (SCFCAH) on March 25.
In accordance with the decision of the Committee the food from several Japanese prefectures has to be inspected in Japan and then it will be inspected at the borders of the EU. These measures are applicable to all 12 prefectures of Japan influenced by the disaster that hit the country.
Special documents must be attached to the import from the rest 35 prefectures of Japan. Besides, the EU will reconsider these measures monthly until there's no radioactive contamination threat.
