At the same time, as evidenced by the outcome of the Summit, as well as statements by the leaders of the European Union, any significant results summit was.

According to the chairman of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy, during the first day of the summit under consideration have been the economic development priorities of the EU. The European leaders reaffirmed the general economic strategy, which has four directions.

The first is restoration of financial stability, which is vital to strengthen the confidence of consumers and investors, and is key to domestic demand and growth.

The second is to ensure the sustainability of public finances.

Third is immediate fight against unemployment, especially among young people.

Fourth is the reform in order to ensure long-term growth and competitiveness of the European economy.

"These four areas are clear and consistent, and we need all four at a time," said the head of the EU Council.

As noted by H.Rompey, during the summit, the talks had also concerned the issue of fighting against tax evasion.

Based on the documents published after the summit, the meeting discussed the questions such as the policy of saving money without sacrificing economic growth and recovery of business life financing.

After the EU summit, on the night of Thursday to Friday, there was the summit of the euro zone leaders where they debated the financial and economic situation in the region.

Commenting on the event, the European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso said that to achieve sustainable growth it is required, above all, to improve European competitiveness. "We have been discussing how we can best achieve that. Special attention was paid to productive capacity problems and, of course, to employment, which, as you know, is our main problem today, " he said.

On the second day of the summit the main topic of talks was the relationship with Russia. According to Barroso, the strategic relationship between the EU and Russia should not be "a partnership of necessity but a conscious choice of the parties." He emphasized the importance and mutual advantage of economic relations between Moscow and Brussels, and urged the Russian authorities to fully implement commitments within WTO, the OSCE and the Council of Europe.

The second half of the event was dedicated to Syria. According to H.Rompeya some EU countries at the summit raised the issue of lifting the embargo on arms supplies to the country. "We agreed to task our Ministers of Foreign Affairs on a priority basis to consider the problem at the unofficial meeting in Dublin the following week, and to take a common stand," said H.Rompey.

In general, many European experts have called the summit "a dead end" because that it is almost impossible to combine economic growth maintenance and respect for budget savings. The papers published on the findings of the summit are not encouraging, they are full of generalities and economic slogans without specific numbers and dates.
