EU to finance development of journalism education in Kazakhstan

ASTANA. January 13. KAZINFORM. The European Union agreed to finance project ?Development of independent regional mass media through formation of qualitative business journalism?. Kazinform refers to the European Commission's Delegation to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

The project is designed for two years and presupposes contribution from the EU in the amount of EUR 201 108. It is aimed at the development of economic and editorial independence of mass media through rising of the journalism education quality and stimulation of specialization in the sphere of journalism. The activity upon this project will cover printed media and professional development of journalists in 8 regions of Kazakhstan (Almaty, Kostanay, Astana, Pavlodar, Karaganda, Atyrau, Taraz and Petropavlovsk). The project target group consists of students and administration of 8 Kazakhstani universities which have programs of journalist training. In addition, the project will involve the regional departments of education including the Ministry of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan. The project is financed in the context of the European Initiative for Human Rights and Democracy. It will be implemented by ?Desenta? Public Fund in cooperation with the ?International Center of Journalism MediaNet? Public Fund.
