European Investment Bank leaves Ukraine

The reason for the business curtailment has become an escalation of confrontation between the authorities and the opposition: last night 26 people died in Kiev.
"As long as the situation does not improve, we suspend business in Ukraine. We do not want to expose to danger our Ukrainian office's staff", said the bank's President Werner Hoyer.
EIB is a public credit institution of the European Union. It was established in 1958. The bank finances the underdeveloped regions of Europe via long-term loans.
Earlier it was reported that in 2014, the EIB will provide Ukraine with 800 million euros loan for modernization of heating, water supply and sanitation. At its meeting on Dec. 25, the Government of Ukraine reviewed the project and agreed to apply for a credit line of 55 million Euros from the European Investment Bank for construction of the Beskid Tunnel, the largest infrastructure project in Ukraine.
