Everything necessary for fair, open and transparent elections to be done - Kazakh President

ASTANA. March 1. KAZINFORM The idea on holding snap presidential elections is an act of respect for the Constitution and democratic principles. Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev said it at the meeting with Kazakhstan's media representatives at his Akorda residence on Monday.

"You know well the history of this issue. On the one hand, I could not ignore the opinion of the majority of electorate supporting the public initiative on holding a referendum. On the other hand, I could not create a precedent that would be setting wrong objectives for the future generations of politicians. A decision had to be taken in the light of these circumstances. I think that in this situation the decision to hold the elections turned out to be the golden mean," the President noted.

Nazarbayev stressed that everything necessary to conduct fair, open and transparent elections would be done.

"I will not hold official campaign events. My election platform is a message to the people of Kazakhstan "Building the Future Together" and the speech at the 'Nur Otan' Party Congress. I feel the support of five million Kazakhstanis, who have supported the initiative of holding the referendum by their signatures in December and January. I am grateful to the people of Kazakhstan, who have supported my presidential nomination for another term," the President said.
