EXBS and Customs Control Committee of Kazakh Finance Ministry sign MoU

EXBS will assist the Customs Control Committee with both technical equipment and infrastructure development for a WMD (weapons of mass destruction) practical exercise training area over the next few years. This practical exercise training area will be designed to instruct customs officers in the detection and interdiction of WMD and WMD-related materials at rail, vehicular and air border crossing points.
The EXBS program has been working in the Republic of Kazakhstan since 1999 and has provided approximately $27 million in infrastructure development, technical assistance, and training for Kazakhstani border security officials. All EXBS assistance is intended to help establish strategic trade control systems that meet international standards and develop the capabilities to detect, interdict, investigate, and prosecute the illicit transfers of WMD, WMD-related items, and conventional arms.
