The Republican Historical Ethnographic Expedition launched to honor the 800th anniversary of the Ulus of Jochi has reached the city of Turkistan, Kazinform News Agency reports.
The group which arrived in the former capital of the Kazakh Khanate and the center of the Great Silk Road also visited Otyrar ancient town. The expedition members met the archeologists working at the historical site and discussed the region’s history.
The expedition members also visited the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi in Turkistan and nearby historical sites, as well as Keruen Sarai complex.
The group also surveyed Syganak ancient town, which was the capital of the Kypshak and Kazakh khanates, and then left for the city of Kyzylorda.
This year, Kazakhstan celebrates the 800th anniversary of the Ulus of Jochi (The Golden Horde). By the middle of the 15th century, the Ulus of Jochi ceased to exist, but its importance in the history of both Kazakhstan and the entire Eurasian region is invaluable. Earlier, Kazinform published a series of articles about the Ulus of Jochi. In an exclusive interview with Kazinform, Dr Marie Favereau, Associate Professor of History at Paris Nanterre University, author of several books on the Golden Horde, explores how the Jochid khanate influenced the international diplomacy.
