Experts discuss geopolitical prospects of Central Asia in post-crisis period

ALMATY. December 11. KAZINFORM /Kadyrzhan Smagulov/ Experts have discussed geopolitical prospects of Central Asia in the post-crisis period at a roundtable untitled "Geopolitical prospects of Central Asia in the post-crisis period" held in Almaty.

Scientists from Harvard University Boris Rumer, who specializes on political and economic processes in the Central Asian region, was among the guests invited. The Kazakh scientists, experts and journalists took part in the roundtable.

 They told about their vision of development of geopolitical trends in the post-crisis period in Central Asia. The experts consider the countries of the region and world powers to pay special attention to the situation in Afghanistan in the mid-term perspective. It was noted that Kazakhstan defined the Afghan problem, which influence on the regional and international security, as one of the priorities of the chairmanship in the OSCE.

The other issue, on which the attention was focused, was growing influence of China in Central Asia, weakening of the US foreign policy activity in the connection with problems within America, in particular, of the economic character.

The sides noted productiveness of the roundtable.
