Extradition agreement with Hungary ratified by Kazakh Senate

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - The Senate, the upper chamber of the Kazakh Parliament, has adopted the law "On ratification of the Agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and Hungary on extradition" at the plenary session today.

First Deputy Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan Johan Merkel noted ‘with the agreement in effect, Kazakhstan and Hungary can extradite convicts for further serving of their terms in their homeland'. "There is a number of conditions that have to be met when transferring a convict. For instance, the remaining prison term may not be shorter than 1 year at the time when the extradition is requested," Mr. Merkel added. In his words, the agreement regulates the relations between the competent authorities of Kazakhstan and Hungary on extradition of persons wanted for criminal prosecution.
