Fifty-fourth Session of UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs opens in Vienna
A wide range of topical issues on international cooperation towards an integrated and balanced strategy to counter the world drug problem, strengthening of control over the trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors, use of narcotic drugs for medical and scientific purposes as well as measures to prevent their diversion will be considered within the session, which is meeting in Vienna from March 21-25.
The Commission will pay special attention to search for ways to improve effectiveness of specific joint programs implementation for prevention of drug addiction spread among youth.
UNODC Executive Director Yury Fedotov is expected to introduce well-known Hollywood actor and writer Christopher Kennedy Lawford as UN Goodwill Ambassador on drugs and medical rehabilitation of drug addicts.
Representatives of the key drug control structures and international expert circles from 53 UNODC member states, including Kazakhstan, take part in the session.
