Fire still rages on in Karaganda mine rocked by deadly explosion

 Rescuers were able to save 5 people who sustained various injuries as a result of the deadly explosion at the Kostenko mine in Karaganda region, Kazinform News Agency reports. 

According to the rescue crew, the fire at the site of the explosion that rocked the mine earlier this morning has yet to be extinguished.

The rescuers also continue to evacuate those injured. The search for 14 missing miners is on.

They say the situation in the mine is manageable, however, there is always risk that it might get out of control.

Kazakhstan woke up to the news of the fatal explosion and fire at the ArcelorMittal Temirtau mine in Karaganda region that took lives of at least 32 miners.

Today’s horrific incident came two months after five people were killed in an explosion at the ArcelorMittal Temirtau mine in August.

Earlier Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and declared a national day of mourning on October 29. The President also ordered the Government to end investment cooperation with ArcelorMittal Temirtau and nationalize the company.
