Flowers laid to Dinmukhamed Konayev’s monument in Almaty

Almaty hosted the ceremony of laying flowers to the monument of prominent statesman Dinmukhamed Konayev marking 112 years since his birth, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.   

Attending the event were cadets of the Border Service Academy of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan, family members and close ones of Konayev, his colleagues, social activists, public and political figures, labor and war veterans, residents and guests of the city.

Today marks the day of birth of Dinmukhamed Konayev. 30 years ago, when he passed away, we laid flowers to his bust. Since then, each year on January 12, his day of birth, and on August 22, the day he died, we gather with the public, lay flowers and remember him. He was a kind and true professional. He cared for his close ones, nephews and nieces, children, and the younger generation in general, said Eldar Konayev, president of the Konayev International Fund.

All those present also visited Konayev’s museum and his memorial museum-apartment, where then chief of the Kazakh statesman’s security service Anatoli Goryainov presented rare photos of Konayev.

According to the director of the museum, Yelena Kubasheva, the museum was founded in 2002 to celebrate 90 years of Konayev’s birth, and the museum-apartment in 2012 on the occasion of the Kazakh statesman’s 100th birth anniversary. The museum hosts over eight thousand artifacts. Last year, up to 35 thousand people visited it.

Born on January 12, 1912, in Verny, Dinmukhamed Konayev was the Soviet party and statesman. He was the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and a three-time Hero of Socialist Labor. Konayev authored over 100 scientific works.
