In ten years of its existence the SCO proved its worth as an efficient platform for the development of equal and mutually advantageous cooperation of its six member states striving to ensure peace, stability and prosperity in the region, SCO Secretary General Muratbek Imanaliyev told on Thursday at the conference on "Tajikistan and China: co-development practice and opportunities" held in Beijing.
The SCO holds a specific place among the regional organizations and specialized institutions aiming its main efforts at maintaining peace, security and stability, also creating favorable conditions for the SCO sustainable socioeconomic development.
The SCO prioritizes counteraction against trans-border challenges and threats in the region. Besides, the joint efforts of the SCO member states contribute to ensuring the international stability.
One of the key goals of the organization is welfare gain and improvement of quality of life of the SCO nations. Since the foundation the SCO has adopted long-term programs and plans in the areas of trade and economics purposed to ensure socioeconomic development of the SCO member countries. Today the organization boasts a solid legal framework for trade and economic cooperation, foreign trade, transport and agriculture, finance, etc.
The main economic priority for us is the implementation of a series of pilot regional projects in the fields of energy, transport and information technologies. Besides, deepened cultural and humanitarian cooperation contribute to spiritual rapprochement, intercultural dialogue of the SCO nations. We witness today strengthening of cooperation within the meetings of ministers of culture, healthcare, science and technologies, SCO Forum, he went on.
The SCO will further advance interaction in the spirit of mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, mutual consultations, respect for diversity of cultures, striving for joint development and will jointly implement core objectives and principles of the key documents of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Imanaliyev resumed.
