For effective inter-regional communications development new possibilities open up in different areas - Serik Akhmetov

UST-KAMENOGORSK. July 12. KAZINFORM - The Forum of Interregional Integration of Almaty, East Kazakhstan, Karaganda and Pavlodar regions chaired by Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov has been held today in Ust-Kamenogorsk town, Kazakh Prime Minister's web-site informs.

Addressing the participants of the event - the heads of central and local authorities, large industrial and agricultural enterprises, representatives of the business community, the expert community - Akhmetov noted the importance of the forum in the light of the implementation of the regional integration objectives set by the President in the strategy "Kazakhstan 2050".

"Issues of regional integration are the priority in terms of the Customs Union and the forthcoming accession to the WTO," the Prime Minister said. He stressed the importance of the forum as a "launching pad for active interaction between the regions, a new opportunity for mutually beneficial agreements."

Akhmetov noted the urgency of the President's decision on the establishment of the Ministry of Regional Development, whose mission is to ensure balanced development and competitiveness of the country's regions.

In conclusion the Prime Minister said that "in fact, there was launched a new level of relations between the regions, the search for practical solutions to improve their competitiveness."

As for the prospects of cooperation of the participating regions Akhmetov noted strong potential for their interaction. "Your regions cover about 40% of the country with one-third of the population, you give 19% of the national gross domestic product," he added.

For the development of effective inter-regional relations there are good opportunities in the field of industrial and cluster cooperation, implementation of major infrastructure projects, interaction between SECs, tourism development, staffing.

Calling these areas a key to regional cooperation, the Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Regional Development to study in detail the global experience in the field of inter-regional cooperation, conduct relevant research and actively engage in this process other regions of the country.

The Prime Minister also instructed the Ministry to begin full-scale preparations for the first regional forum with the participation of representatives from all regions, government agencies, expert community, which is to be held at the end of the year.

"Our goal is to fulfill the President's instructions on achieving stability and prosperity of the country," he said.

A framework agreement on cooperation and expansion of inter-regional relations between the governors of East-Kazakhstan, Almaty, Karaganda and Pavlodar regions was signed during the forum. The governors of the four regions concluded 40 contracts worth 20 billion tenge.

In Ust-Kamenogorsk Akhmetov visited the exhibition in the technology park "Altay", where he got acquainted with the industrial-innovative features and products of the four regions participating in the forum.
