Foreign Affairs Minister meets with Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia

The diplomats discussed problems of regional security, rational use of water and energy resources as well as the issues of cooperation of the UN Centre for Preventive Diplomacy with the Central Asian states, Kazinform refers to the web-site of the Foreign Affairs Ministry. Minister Idrissov noted, Kazakhstan extensively supports the Joint Plan of Action for the Implementation of the UN Global Counter-terrorism Strategy in Central Asia. He also underscored, that cooperation with the Central Asian states is one of the priorities of Kazakhstan's foreign policy. During the meeting, the counterparts discussed issues of reconciliation and rehabilitation in Afghanistan. "Kazakhstan widely facilitates international efforts aimed at stabilization in Afghanistan and provides humanitarian assistance on an annual basis, including food and fuel supply, as well as providing training for young Afghans in Kazakhstan's universities," Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister said. The sides also reflected on productive cooperation between Kazakhstan and the UN. Erlan Idrissov underlined, "Kazakhstan provides all possible support to the UN initiatives directed at solving major regional and global problems, including security and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction."
