Reuters: Russia starts gas supplies to Uzbekistan via Kazakhstan

Reuters reported on October 7 about the start of natural gas supply to Uzbekistan via Kazakhstan.

“Under a two-year deal signed with Russia's Gazprom, Uzbekistan will import 9 million cubic metres of Russian natural gas per day. It is the first time Uzbekistan, which is a producer and exporter itself, is importing gas from Russia,” reads the agency.

Bloomberg: Oil Majors Threaten Arbitration Over Kazakh Environment Fine

Bloomberg reported on October 11 citing insider sources that major foreign oil companies behind the giant Kashagan oil field “have told Kazakhstan’s government that they may seek international arbitration in a dispute over a $5 billion environmental fine.”

“The Kazakh authorities ordered the North Caspian Operating Company, which runs Kashagan, to pay a 2.3 trillion tenge ($4.8 billion) fine earlier this year for allegedly storing too much sulfur at the project. The operator has denied any wrongdoing and mounted a successful legal challenge to the decision, but the government is still pursuing the penalty at the country’s court of appeals,” reads the article.

Interfax: Kazakhstan transported 31,100 tonnes of Russian oil to Uzbekistan in Q3; 25,000 tonnes planned for Oct

Interfax reported on October 13 that KazTransOil transported 31,100 tons of Russian oil to Uzbekistan in the third quarter, citing the company.

“The oil is transported through Kazakhstan via the Omsk - Pavlodar - Shymkent - Shagyr route using railway tanks. In the first quarter, 10,700 tons of Russian oil were transported to Uzbekistan, followed by 37,900 tons in the second quarter. This totals almost 80,000 tons of Russian oil transported to Uzbekistan through the KazTransOil main oil pipeline system in the first nine months,” reads the article.

Korea JoongAng Daily: KT&G constructs new factory in Kazakhstan

Korea JoongAng Daily reported on October 12 that KT&G, Korea’s largest tobacco manufacturer, will build a new factory in Kazakhstan that will produce heat-not-burn products and conventional cigarettes.

“The manufacturing plant, situated in Almaty Province, Kazakhstan, covers an area of approximately 200,000 square meters (2.15 million square feet), the company said Thursday. It is expected to serve as the company's manufacturing hub in Eurasia,” reads the article.

Caspian News: Athletes from Kazakhstan Grab 80 Medals at Asian Games

Caspian News, a Baku-based news agency, reported on October 10 that Kazakhstan won 80 medals in the overall medal standings at the 19th Asian Games.

“The team, comprising 525 athletes, ranked 11th in the final medal standings, grabbing ten gold, 22 silver, and 48 bronze in 30 different sports. The Kazakhstani team not only excelled in Hangzhou but also secured several spots in the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. Four Kazakh athletes, including pentathletes Yelena Potapenko and George Boroda-Dudochkin, along with boxers Kamshybek Kunkabayev and Karina Ibragimova, clinched licenses for the prestigious event,” reads the article.
