The UAE, Turkiye, Czechia, India, Hungary and Egypt also cooperate with these companies.

According to Sergey Agafonov, head of Kazakhstan’s Association of Power Supply Organizations, several factors unite the said companies. First of all, they all have extensive experience. They also possess water-moderated reactor technologies.

He emphasized water-cooled reactors are the safest type of nuclear plant today.

The final decision on the technology supplier or consortium for the construction of the nuclear power station will be made soon. It will be taken under due consideration of national interests, international rules and obligations and IAEA recommendations.

As earlier reported, Kazakhstan may start building the second and third NPPs.

Director general of Nuclear Power Plants of Kazakhstan JSC Timur Zhantikin said the second NPP may be built in east of Kazakhstan. He stressed the potential nuclear power plant should be built in areas with minimal seismic activity, safe from natural disasters and far from densely populated districts. Areas with sources of water are preferred.
